Released: December 2011
For his third foray into the Venus Records archives, Tatsuo Sunaga focuses more on the piano trio format and more of a late night dinner jazz club mood. One point in common with the previous two releases, however, is that there are some originals scattered among a healthy number of standards for the dozen tracks featured on this release.
As with all Venus Records releases the audio quality is impeccable, giving you that in-the-room-with-the-band kind of feeling. The Bill Crow Quartet get us under way with the original composition From Birdland To Broadway, a guitar and sax-led swinging number that has nice groove to it. Other notable tracks include Richie Beirach Trio's take on the Miles Davis tune Solar, Harold Maybern Trio's take on Blue Bossa, and the Brazilian jazz of Papagaio Rei by Adela Dalto.
Another decent collection on the whole, but perhaps not quite as kicking as the last volume.
