I have seen a number of good gigs this year, and have caught a number of artists more than once. This is a selection of the most memorable gigs I've seen during the last twelve months.
indigo jam unit with Alicia Saldenha @ JZ'Brat, Shibuya (September 10th) ~ indigo jam unit live juts get better every year, and this performance with vocalist Alicia Saldenha on the Rose release tour was simply outstanding.
JariBu Afrobeat Arkestra @ Plug, Shibuya (November 20th) ~ I've seen this band several times this year and could have chosen one or two other dates, but settled for the release party for their album Mediacracy.
Kingdom★Afrocks @月見ル君想フ, Aoyama (July 10th) ~ the other big name on the Japanese afrobeat scene, the release party for Fanfare, with 鎮座Dopeness in support was one of the highlights of the summer.
Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro @ JZ'Brat (April 29th) ~ Saitama's finest finest funk outfit were on top form for this live set at the spring edition of "Searching" with UK DJ/digger/label owner Jazzman Gerald as special guest.
Shinpei Ruike 4 Piece Band @ Star Pine's Cafe (October 17th) ~ slick, confident and assured performance from the best young trumpeter in Japan with a special guest appearance from Naruyoshi Kikuchi for a couple of tracks.
